Q.S.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

The probable cause of menstrual pain is excessive or imbalanced amount of prostaglandin F2α secreted from the endometrium, due to which the uterine contraction increases with an irregular pattern. This results in increased basal tone and increased active pressure. Uterine hyper contractility, decreased uterine blood flow and increased peripheral nerve hypersensitivity contribute to pain.

Vijaya (Cannabis) and Apamarg help reduce inflammation (shothahara) and alleviate abdominal pain (shoolanashak), Aloe vera facilitates removal of menstrual blood flow obstruction (rajorodhnaashak). The above properties of the ingredients helps in reducing the concentration of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and thus reduces pain.

THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS

  • Removes obstruction of blood flow (srotarodha). Thus pacifies Vata Dosha.
  • Because of its ushna veerya property, it helps in alleviating pain, headache, breast tenderness, appetite, nausea and vomiting.
  • Due to its sothahara, shoolanashak and rajorodhnaashak properties, it helps in reducing the concentration of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins.
  • It acts well on psychological factors such as anxiety, depression and mood swing etc., because of nidrajanana (improve sleep) prabhava of this medicine.
  • Eases dysmenorrhea, metrorrhagia and menorrhagia – issues related to the menstrual cycle.
  • Alleviates abdominal pain, lower back pain.
  • Helps alleviate associated symptoms of menstrual disorders such as cramps, headache, breast tenderness, appetite loss, nausea, and vomiting.
